Starting at 4:45 at the TCHS mini-stadium, the JT Reddick Warrior squad held an intra squad scrimmage.

After JTR, the ESMS teams took to the gridiron, as the 7th grade defense and offense took turns running plays against their 8th grade counterparts. Erick Willis, ESMS Athletic Director and 8th Grade Head Coach then faced off with the Freshmen squad. The night would segue way into a 9th grade vs. JV scrimmage, and finally the Blue vs White Varsity contest.

Senior Ryan Wedgeworth gave us a good look at his scrambling ability and used his arm for some nice passing, but the highlight in my mind was the addition on Ladarius “Boo” Stewart to the backfield. Stewart, who will split time with Brian Bennett,a junior with a good down hill quick step, scored twice during the scrimmage. With Malik Pittman as a option for Wedgeworth, and Coach Reid working to fit newcomer Brandon Roe into an already potent offense, Devils fans should see a more explosive offense this season.

On the defensive side of the house, Roe will be roaming the backfield, looking to lay the wood to anyone in his sights. Senior Steven Waters made a large impact from his linebacker slot. If there is one weakness, it’s still the d-backs. That will get better with reps, and time.

I was also impressed with Frankie Mejia. He was consistent as the placekicker, and should be a option for scoring. Tift opens the official season next Friday night at Brodie Field with a scrimmage against the Monroe High Tornados. Game time is set for 8:00PM according to www.TiftCountyFootball.com, the official site of TC Football.
