Cook runs over Central 42-14

Adel – It’s been a growing season for 1st year Head Coach Jon Lindsey. His Cook Hornets squad took back to back losses to Tift and Berrien early in the season, only to mature into Region Champions.  The Hornets Nest played host to the Central (Macon) Chargers in the 1st round of the GHSA playoffs on Friday, and amassing almost 500 yards of offense, Cook literally run over Central, 42-14.

Lindsey got strong performances from three different backs, each eclipsing 100 yards on the way to 6 rushing scores. Lindsey, a wing-t offense guy who was on Jeff Herron’s staff at Camden, before starting his Head Coaching career with Irwin County, has gotten his personnel to buy in. If they continue to produce big yards, the Hornets may make a run in the AAA bracket. They will host Hart County in Adel on Friday night.

Tavian Allen gained 77 yards on three attempts in the first half, a staggering 25.7 yards per carry, including a 41-yard run for the opening TD of the contest. Jay Smith, another stallion in the Lindsey backfield, added two more TDs in the first half.

Smith would finish with 178 on the ground, Allen added 149 yards, and Corey McCall broke the century mark on the way to two rushing TDs.

Defensively, Central was handcuffed to just 178 yards passing, while they averaged over 350 coming into the contest. Hart County (10-1) defeated East Hall 42-14 to advance, losing this season to Jefferson 21-14 in the Region 8-AAA Championship game.
