Tift Swim Dominates Thomasville Meet

Thomasville – In the first meet of the season for the Blue Devils swimmers, Tift invaded the Thomasville YMCA Aquatic Center for competition with Coffee, Colquitt, Valdosta, Bainbridge, Jeff Davis,Lowndes,  and Lee County. After all events, Tift would win the Overall and Girls’ events, with the Boys finishing a strong second place in the boys’ events.

Tift would defeat all comers in the girl’s events, with the closest team 34.0 points back. Garnering 75.0 points in the win, Tift got great performances from Katelyn Seymour, Casey Hall, and Olivia Thomas. Seymour accounted for 12.0 of the 75 points, winning the 100 meter freestyle, and finishing 2nd in the 200 meter freestyle. Hall finished 2nd in the 400 meter freestyle, and 100 meter backstroke.  Thomas was 2nd in the 100 Meter butterfly, and in the 200 Meter IM. Seymour, Hall, and Sophomore Madison Honeycutt, joined Freshman Claire Ryland to win the 200 Meter Medley Relay, and the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay. The foursome improved their times in both events. shaving 3.42 seconds in the medley, and a huge 7.51 seconds to finish at 2:04.65 in the free. Ryland also finished 2nd in the 50 Meter free.

On the boys’ side, Tift would finish behind former region foe Coffee. Coffee scored an amazing 96.0 team points, with Tift garnering 68.0 points on the day. Hank McElroy was busy, taking 1st place in the 200 Meter freestyle and competing as part of two relays which placed 2nd in each event. McElroy improved his 200 Meter time by 3.25 seconds. Scott Mucha finished 3rd in the 200 Meter IM and 2nd in the 100 Meter Freestyle. Jacob Harper would finish 6th in the 50 Meter Freestyle. Tracy Blanchard would finish 3rd in the 100 Meter Fly. Drew Wyatt would take 2nd in the 400 Meter Freestyle, dropping 9.55 second from his seeding time to finish 5:12:66.

In the relays, Tift’s team of McElroy, Wyatt, Harper, and Mucha would finish 2nd in the 200 Meter Freestyle, and 400 Meter Freestyle. Tift will be busy after Thanksgiving, competing in a make-up home meet on Dec. 2nd and invading Darton College for the annual Blue Devil Invitational on Dec. 13th. Come support Blue Devil swimmers.
