Tift would start fast, getting good play from leading scorer for the season Tyrie Jackson, and Preston (PJ) Horne. Each had 8 points in the frame as Tift outscored the Yellow Jackets 18-10. Jackson hit two big 3-pointers. Tift Head Coach Eric Holland spoke in the pregame about Horne’s play over the past few games. “We expected PJ to do more, and he’s been a little off lately. He missed a dunk last night ( against Savannah). Holland got “more” from the Sophomore Center tonight, as Horne led all scorers with 22.

In the 2nd period, Tift continued to put up decent numbers, adding 15 to the tally to lead 33-20 at the break. Horne was consistent as he led the quarter with another eight points.

In the 3rd period, Tift opened the lead as Wayne struggled, only scoring six points in the frame. Tift poured on the offense, scoring 24 points and cruising. The Devils were deadly from long distance, with Tyrie Jackson and Micah Johnson each hitting twice from behind the line. Hayden Mullinax added four points as the Devils rolled.

Holland played his bench in the fourth, but Wayne gained little as they were outscored again, 8-7.

Horne finished with 22 points, Jackson added 18 points, and Micah Johnson would tally 12 points. For Wayne,  Rahdale Tucker finished with 11 points, 5 of the 11 from the foul line (83% FT on the night).  Tift shot 77% from the charity stripe as a team (7 for 9).

Tift improves to 5-0 and will take to the hardwood again on Friday, Dec. 5th, facing off with Monroe at Monroe High School. Game time is 7:30PM in Albany. Wayne County falls to 1-3 and will play against Ware County on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30PM in Waycross.
