Rebels Dominate Telfair in Season Opening Win

Much of last year’s Turner County Rebels state runner up basketball team has moved on to other things after graduation. But what remains in Ashburn is still a formidable squad as evident by the fact that the Rebels had little trouble with the Telfair County Trojans Tuesday night in Ashburn. The Rebels won easily 81-49.

The Trojans, who came into the game 2-0 with early victories over Wheeler County and Jeff Davis, actually led 4-0 early in the game. But then the full court press of the Rebels began to kick in. Overcoming sloppy play early, the Rebels, who easily go 10 deep, led 45-24 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same. The Rebels, who are coached by Tyronne Kellogg, obviously have some things to work on to get to where they want to be but on this night, they were just too much for the Trojans. A shortened fourth quarter allowed both teams to empty their benches.

Sophomore Tamarrion Terry led the way down low with 18 points. Also scoring in double figures were Jarvis Hall with 16 points and Quan Hillmon with 13.

The Rebels will be on the road Friday night in Cordele against the Cougars. Tip off will be approximately 7:30.
