Lady Canes Blow by Berrien 74-56

Nashville – The Lady Canes of Fitzgerald have been patiently waiting for the football team to finish their season, waiting for a chance to take to the hardwood in regular season basketball play. Starting with Berrien in region play, the Lady Canes wanted to get ahead early. Coach Tim Hathcock’s squad has struggled in the early season, falling to Cook and Thomasville in region play, and bringing a 2-4 record into the first region contest for Fitzgerald.

Close through the first frame, Fitzgerald would edge the Rebelettes 15-13 in the period. Ke’Ke Bonner would lead the Purple squad with 5 points for the quarter.  Down two, Berrien hoped to gain ground in the second, and increased their offensive power, but couldn’t slow Bonner down. Fitzgerald would lead 41-33 at the break. Bonner added 9 of the 26 in the period for the Canes.

Staying consistent, Berrien could only  net 12 points in the third frame, as the lady Canes took a 60-45 lead into the final minutes before winning 74-56. Leading the way for Fitzgerald was Bonner with 18 points to lead all scorers. Joining Bonner was Brianna Wormley with 11 points, Corteney Holland and T’Kayshza King who each netted 10 points. For Berrien, Akheyli  Pitts with 14 points, Danielle King with 13 points and Treyonna Boone added 9 on the evening.

Berrien falls to 2-5 and 0-2 in Region 1-AA play. Fitzgerald moves to 1-1 and 1-0 in the region. Fitzgerald travels to Tift County on Friday night. Game time is 7:00PM. Berrien makes the long ride to Seminole County for another region contest. Game time in Donaldsonville is set for 6:00PM.
