Boys Hoops: Tift Crushes Canes 78-30

Tifton –  In the first game of the year for the Hurricane’s boys basketball program, coach Derrick Arrington knew he had a tough opponent in the Tift County Blue Devils. Eric Holland’s squad is undefeated in seven games, including a strong Savannah squad.  Tift County  also has a state ring, and the defending state champions in AAAAAA look better as a team then last year’s squad.

Tift would not allow the Hurricanes  to get started, making a 30-10 run in the first frame. Driving the bus was Tyrie Jackson. Jackson dialed long distance  for four 3-point baskets, scoring 15 of his game-high 24 in the period. Fitzgerald would never recover, as Tift led by 29 at the break, 48-19. The Devils would slow down in the third, but not by much as they ran for a 20-5 as Fitzgerald could find the rim.  Playing his reserves in the fourth, Holland’s  Devils managed to eek out 13 points for the 48 point lead.

Jackson’s 24  paced the scorers. Post PJ Horne added 15 points and Sophomore Micah Johnson finished with 12 at his point guard spot while Iman Holley netted 10 points coming off the bench. For Fitzgerald, Tae Daniel scored 10 of the 30, while Perry finished with 9 points.

Fitzgerald will host Brooks County tonight at FHS. Tip-off is set for 7:30PM. Tift moves to 8-0 and will host region foe Lee County in the Devil;s Den tonight. Game Time is 8:30PM.
