McDonald’s Tournament Early Game Recaps

Tifton – In the early games of the 5th Annual McDonald’s Tift County Invitational, Cook used a huge 4th to defeat Lowndes, Ware edged Pelham, and Lake Wales (Fl) and Brunswick duked it out.Playing in the opening contest of the tournament, Coach Tommy Blackshear brought a different squad to the Tift County arena. The Cook Hornets have had setbacks, coupled with the reclassification to Region 1-AAAA.  With familiar faces gone for disciplinary infractions and academic eligibility issues. Blackshear and the Hornets have regrouped and hope to find a rhythm before beginning a grueling region schedule in earnest in January.  Cook entered at 4-4, (1-3 in region play). They faced off with a Lowndes Viking squad that has had their own set of struggles. The Vikings have won just 4 games of 11 played.

Fairly even at the Half, Cook carried a 1-point lead into the locker room 22-21. Blackshear made some strong changes within his scheme, and the result would be doubling his opponents scoring, Cook would go on a 16-7 run in the frame and match it in the 4th, outscoring the Vikings 17-9 as the Hornets garnered a 56-38 victory.  Cook’s Tray Jackson would lead all scorers with his 23-point performance. Joining him in double figures in the contest was Jeremiah Smith with 15 points. Junior shooting guard Henry desmond added 9 for the Hornets. Dylan Jarvis led Lowndes with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
