Turner Remains Undefeated in Region

The Turner County Rebels went up against the Echols County Wildcats on Tuesday, January 27. A big region win for both the Lady Rebels and Rebels would keep their winning streak alive.  The Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Wildcats 65-49 while the Rebels defeated the Wildcats in a blowout game 91-42.

The Lady Rebels took to the court and outscored the Lady Wildcats by seven. Mylashia Yancey, guard, put up seven of 16 points in the first frame for Turner. Their strong defense held the Lady Wildcats at nine points for the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Rebels were up 16-9.

The Lady Wildcats defense stepped up in the second frame but still managed to be outscored by three points. Yancey stepped up again hitting two field goals and went two for two in free throw shots. The Lady Rebels put up 13 points on the Lady Wildcats, who hooped for 10 and went 8 for 13 in at the free throw line. The Lady Rebels held on to their lead going into the half, up by ten, 29-19.

The Lady Rebels showed out in the third frame, punching to the hoop for 20 points and holding the Lady Wildcats to three points. Echols was clearly shook up by Turner’s domination on the court, only hitting three of ten free throw shots. The Lady Rebels hooped their way to a big lead. Yancey continued to show out putting up nine points on the board. Up by 27 the Lady Rebels had the advantage going into the fourth frame, leading 49-22.

The Lady Wildcats weren’t out of the game yet. The fought hard to bring home a win outscoring the Lady Rebels by 11 points in the final frame, but came up short of the win. The Lady Rebels stayed strong putting up 16 points to keep them in the game. Zakiyah Office put six points on the board for Turner. Although the Lady Wildcats fought back hard, the Lady Rebels managed to stay undefeated in the region by defeating Echols 65-49.

The Lady Rebels are now 14-0 in region games. Junior, Mylashia Yancey, was the show out for the Lady Rebels putting up 22 points. Zakiyah Office also led for Turner with 15 points for the night.

Hoping to follow the girls lead, the Rebels took to the court against the Wildcats in what was the blowout of the night. Senior, Shaq Baldwin showed up and showed out for the Rebels with 22 points for the night. Tamarrion Terry and Mikevion Hall also led their team putting up 13 and 12 points.

In the first frame the Rebels came out hot, quickly putting 21 points on the board and holding the Wildcats to 11. Baldwin, the Rebels forward, led with 12 points. Paxton King led the Wildcats with seven. At the end of the first the Rebels had a 10 point lead against the Wildcats.

Turner continued to show up and show out going into the second quarter. The Rebels outscored their opponents by 17 points. Terry and Jarvis Hall both led their team to the hoop. Terry hooped for nine points while Hall put up eight points. The strong Rebel defense held the Wildcats at to a 13 point quarter while they put up a 30. At the end of the second the Rebels continued to hold their lead 51-24.

The Rebels showed no sign of being fatigued going into the second half. Once again they outscored their opponents by 17 points.  Hall and center, Jackquise Moore, both put up four points apiece, while team mates Baldwin and Keonte Poke both hit threes in the paint. The Rebels put 26 points up on the Wildcats nine. At the end of the third frame the Rebels led 77-33.

The fourth frame was no different than the rest of the game while Turner continued to outscore the Wildcats. The Rebels put up 14 points outscoring Echols by five in the final quarter. Willie Moore led his team in the fourth hitting three field goals for six points. The Rebels dominated the entire game, defeating the Wildcats 91-42 and remain undefeated in the region with a 14-0 record.

Turner County will be traveling to Lakeland, Georgia Friday January 30, to take on Lanier County in a region game. Game time is at 6:00 PM.
