Baseball: TA starting strong

Chula- Brad Porter has to be happy. In two days, his Panthers squad plated 30 runs while allowing just 1 run to cross the plate from opposing teams. The Panthers scrimmaged visiting Windsor Academy, taking 18-1 victory on Monday afternoon, and opened their season with a shutout victory against Sherwood Christian.

The Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity jumped out to an early lead on Sherwood Christian Academy and captured a 12-0 victory on Tuesday at Chula, GA.

With 12 runs in the first three innings, the Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

A groundout by Bo Vickers, an error, a wild pitch, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Grant Hall during the first inning and a three-run error, a groundout by Riley Mims, an RBI single by Hall, and a passed ball in the second inning helped the Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity put some runs on the board early.

Hall racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity.

Vickers kept contact to a minimum, striking out eight Sherwood Christian Academy batters. The Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity’s pitcher gave up just two hits over four shutout innings.

Blake Shepard couldn’t get it done on the bump for Sherwood Christian Academy, taking a loss. He allowed nine runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out one.

Tiftarea is now 1-0 on the young season. Sherwood will host Tiftarea in the second match of the series Monday, February 23rd. Game time is 4:00.
