Tiftarea Girls Net 1st Region Win

Chula- Playing after a beating the way the Tiftarea Lady Panthers took against former GISA rival Sherwood Christian to start their season, Coach Kendall Vance hoped her squad could play as a unit and stay as healthy as possible as they entered region play and the second game of the year at the Panther Pit on Monday. Facing Brookwood’s Lady Warriors, Tiftarea answered the call.

After falling 7-2 to Sherwoood Christian, Vance’s defense would be banged up as Katie Massa experienced some calf “tightness” as the SCA contest came to a close. The senior defender would be key in protecting the Panther goal. Heather Childers suffered a concussion and will miss several games as she works to be cleared for play.

Scoreless at the break after 40 minutes of play, the Lady Panthers would adjust their attack, and come out heavy on offense. Maci Paulk found a mismatch with her defender, and 4 minutes into the half, scored twice in a two minute span. The Lady Panthers would increase their shots on goal, but not find the net again until Morgan Strenth tapped the final qoal of the contest in with 5:35 to play on a breakaway.

Tiftarea improves to 1-1 and 1-0 in region play. The Lady Panthers will return to action next Monday afternoon in Hahira, as they travel to face another region opponent in the Valwood Lady Valiants. Game time is set for 5PM.
