Tiftarea defeats Valwood 9-3

Chula- The Tiftarea Panthers had a great night on Friday. The six-run explosion in the fifth inning led the Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity to a 9-3 win in seven innings over Valwood. The fans at Tiftarea were in an uproar throughout the seven innings seeing how well their players were doing.

Bo Vickers put together a nice outing. Valwood managed just two hits off of Vickers, who allowed two earned runs, walked five and struck out six during his five innings of work.  Cade Marlowe racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity.

The Tiftarea Academy Panthers Varsity built upon their lead with two runs in the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Vickers singled, plating John Tanner.  Bo Vickers #11 singled to leftfield helping JT Tanner score, and Rhett Rycroft to advance to second. Rycroft advanced to 3rd on error by LF [K Dimick], and scored on the last play.

In the top of the fifth Valwood scored their first point because of Valwood’s #21 Bonner hard hit to left field, #11 Golden made it to third and when Chandler #7 double play to the short stop, Marlowe,Hall, and Rycroft. After pushing across two runs in the top of the fifth, Valwood faced just a 3-2 deficit. An RBI single by Eli Carlo and a groundout by Jake Chandler triggered Valwood’s comeback. Finally, Vickers got Tyler Richards to strike out to end the threat. The score at the bottom of the fifth was 2-9, an almost definite win over Valwood.

Valwood was able to score one more point in the last inning making the score 3-9.

This win will be sure to lift the spirits of the panthers, and hopefully make a winning streak. The next home game will be Friday, but the Panthers will be on the prowl in Camilla as they face off against Westwood next Tuesday.
