Berrien falls to Hornets

It was a border war Friday night, September 4, in Nashville as the Berrien Rebels took on longtime rival the Cook Hornets. The Hornets defeated the Rebels 20-0 after a rain delay during halftime.

Cook started the night off with a huge carry for 38 yards by, Ce’darius Arnold. This put the Hornets in great field position for a field goal. Kicker, Connor Hilliard wasted no time putting the ball through the uprights to put the Hornets on the board and in the lead 3-0. The Rebels moved quick and a 40 yard carry by Davon Lewis, would put the Rebels at first and goal. Their chance at scoring was taken away after a fumble was recovered by the Hornets. Tavian Allen carried the ball all the way to the end zone putting the Hornets up by 10.

Berrien tried to come back from the deficit but couldn’t hang on to the ball, causing another fumble to fall into the hands of Cook. The Hornets continued to take advantage of the Rebels mistakes once again moving the ball down field for Hilliard to put up another field goal. The Hornets now led 13-0 with three minutes left in the first quarter. Berrien fought hard but couldn’t manage to move the ball down field before the end of the first.

The Rebels kept pushing gaining few yards. A long pass by Blake Guthrie, was picked off by Hornets, Trae Jackson. Jackson ran the ball back to the end zone for another touchdown. The Hornets now had the lead 20-0. Both teams defense stood strong allowing no other points to be scored in the first half.

A huge down pour of rain during the halftime show would delay the game and eventually the game was called leaving Cook with the win against the Rebels.

The Berrien Rebels are now 0-2 on the season. Next Friday, September 11, the Rebels will travel to Homerville to face off against the Clinch County Panthers. Cook improves to 1-1 and will make the trip to Blackshear for a contest with Pierce County. Game time for both contests is 7:30
