Cook Falls 21-14 to Dodge

Adel- Friday night, the Cook County Hornets suffered a tough loss against region rivals, the Dodge county Indians. The Hornets fell 14-21 in the last seconds of the game.

The Hornets started off the game with big carries from sophomores Brandon Doe and Ce’Darius Arnold, pushing the ball down to the 23 yard line. A strong Indian defense would force the Hornets to try for a field goal but came up inches short. The Indians wasted no time getting the ball down field as senior, Camron Young, carried the ball down to the 14.  The Indians continued to power through the Hornet defense getting to the seven yard line where a carry from Young would put the Indians on the board. With less than four minutes left in the first quarter, Dodge was up 7-0. After many attempts to break the Dodge defense, the Hornets came up short in the first quarter.
The Hornets stepped up their defense in the second quarter holding the Indians from putting more points on the board. Cook eventually forced the fumble and recovered it on their own six. One carry from Doe would tie the game up and put the Hornets on the board with three minutes left in the first half. The Hornet defense stood strong, not allowing the Indians to get to the end zone or in field goal range. At the end of the half the Hornets and Indians were all tied up 7-7.
The Indians started the second half much like the first, a big pass to Young, put the Indians first and goal at the four. Senior, Kyle Glover finished it with a four yard rush into the end zone for a touchdown. The Indians now led 14-7 with nine minutes left in the third. Cook fought hard to tie the game up before the fourth. With carries from Doe and Chris Kinsey, the Hornets managed to move the ball from the 46 down to the 20 at the end of the third.
Continuing to push forward, Kinsey carried the ball down to the five, then to the end zone to tie the game up 14-14. Dodge pushed towards the goal line but came up short due to a tough Cook defense. The Hornets were determined to get to the end zone to take the lead but with two false starts, they were pushed back to the 15 with 21 yards to go for a first down. Unable to reach the first down Cook punted the ball away. A short kick put the Indians in good field position on the 35. A 25 yard carry from Young, put the Indians up again 20-14 with two minutes left in the game.
