Swimming: Tift goes 3 for 4 at BDI

Albany, GA  – Tift County swimming has had a very successful season so far. The meet on Saturday gave yet another set of trophies to the talented swimmers. Along with trophies, several swimmers also qualified for the state championship that will be had at the end of the season.

The previous Coffee County meet went well for the Devils as they came out on top. The Tift County girl swimmers scored a total of 92 points, completely blowing the Coffee County Trojans out of the water with their score of 49 points. The Tift County boys came in first place with 73 points, while the second place team Coffee County Trojans scored 71 points.  The two teams had a gap of 165 to 120 in the final calculation of points.

The boys 200 yard freestyle relay which included Hank McElroy, Jacob Redd, Scott Mucha, and Jacob Harper qualified for state with a time of 1:38.91. Hank McElroy, Tracy Blanchard, Drew Wyatt, Jacob Harper  qualified for state in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of only 3:39.18. Claire Ryland got her best time in the 100 fly, qualifying for state with a time of 1:04.17.

Over 350 swimmers took to The 2015 Blue Devil Invitational at the Darton Aquatic Center. The Lady Devils came out with 133 points, beating Camden County by over 100 points, their score being 69.5.The boys came out with 117 points, scoring first place, while Coffee County scored only 98 points. Tift County came out on top with a combined score of 250 points, second place went to Camden County High School with 150.5 points, and third place was taken by Coffee High School with 144 points.
Senior Hank McElroy had an amazing meet at the Blue Devil Invitational, he qualified for state in 3 individual events, and 2 relays. McElroy took charge with 1:52 in the 200 yard Freestyle, 22:95 in the 50 yard Freestyle, and 51:21 in the 100 yard Freestyle. McElroy is the only boy so far to qualify for state individually, which makes his accomplishment that much more impressive.  Hank McElroy, Tracy Blanchard, Drew Wyatt, Jacob Harper improve their time in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay by dropping almost 3 whole seconds with it now being 3:36.57. Hank McElroy, Jacob Redd, Tyler Coker, Jacob Harper also improved their time in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay with a new time of 1:37.97.
Casey Hall, Sarah Lawson, Claire Ryland, Ansley Mobley improve their state qualifying time in the 200 yard Medley Relay with it dropping to 2:01.69.  Claire Ryland, Autumn Hardy, Casey Hall, Stephanie Connell drop some time in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay with it being 1:50.79. Olivia Thomas, Autumn Hardy, Ansley Mobley, Stephanie Connell drop time in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with it being 4:08.45.In the 200 yard Freestyle Ansley Mobley and Olivia Thomas both  qualify for state with times of 2:04.52 for Mobley and 2:05.29 for Thomas. Claire Ryland receives her state cut in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 58.50. Casey Hall and Ansley Mobley qualified for state in the 500 yard Freestyle with Mobley coming in with 5:27.56 and Mobley at 5:32.74.
All in all the Tift County Blue Devil swim team is having an awesome season with Coach McElroy and Vickers. Hopefully these talented swimmers will bring home even more trophies from state, as well as the upcoming meets. The Devils will return to the pool on Jan. 7th, competing in the Gator Invitational in Waycross.
