Signing: Thomas, Spurlin sign LOI at Tift County

Tifton – Two rising seniors have signed letters of intent to play baseball at the college level. Connor Thomas, a senior left-handed pitcher, will attend Georgia Institute of Technology, focusing on becoming a mechanical engineer. Adam Spurlin, a senior short stop with a strong arm and a good offensive game at the plate, will attend Augusta College.

Tift coach Kyle Kirk discussed the two seniors’ accomplishments before family and friends.. “These two men are leaders on and off the field.” Principal Kim Seigler opened the signing discussing how academically excellent both players are in the classroom. “Both of these young men make excellent grades, and still manage to excel on the ball field.”

Thomas is expected to be the headliner on the Tift mound. The senior went 8-1 last season, with 95 strikeouts and issued just eight walks. His ERA led the team at .667.  He has a deceptive speed. and exceptional control in the strike zone. He struck out an average of a batter per inning (in 75 innings of work).

Spurlin has played in various roles, but is expected to be the starting shortstop. Augusta College (formerly Georgia Regents University) will hope he improves his stellar average at the plate. Spurlin has a .333 batting average, and has gone long ball. He has pop but does well in contact hitting as well.

With these signings, Tift County has signed 10 players to play ball at the next level since Coach Kirk began coaching at Tift.
