Crisp dominates Turner

Ashburn- The Crisp County Cougars made the short trip down from Cordele and controlled much of the game and pulled away for a 42-20 victory over the Turner County Rebels on a warm day at Alan Hobby Field in Ashburn. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but like many other games in South Georgia, it was pushed back to Saturday due to the arrival of Hurricane Hermine

The Cougars, who were the third consecutive Region 1-AAA opponent that the Rebels had played, jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead. The first half really saw the Rebels struggle on offense as the Cougar defensive line, led by two Division I defensive end prospects in Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant and Quay Walker, spent a lot of time in the Rebel backfield.

The Cougars would add another score in the third quarter before the Rebels finally got on the board in the third quarter as quarterback Tyler Moore found Jarvis Hall from 13 yards out to cut the deficit to 21-6. The Cougars would add another score before the Rebels got going.
Moore found Tamorrion Route on a deep fly route and he raced 85 yards down the sideline for the score to energize the crowd.  The two point conversion was good and suddenly the score was 28-14. After the defense forced a three and out, Moore and Hall hooked up again, this time from 45 yards out and the Rebels were within one score at 28-20.
But the Cougars would answer with two touchdowns of their own to pull away for the victory.

With the victory, the Cougars remained perfect on the young season at 3-0 while the Rebels drop to 1-2.

The Cougars will have a short week this week as they go back on the road to Macon on Thursday night to take on Rutland. The Rebels are off this Friday but will be back in action on Friday, September 16 as they will host Telfair County in the region opener.
